We woke up to bright skies and a beautiful morning in our condo and got ready for the days hikes. After oatmeal and some small breakfast we drove into the Zion National park and left the car at Zion Lodge and hiked to the Lower Emerald Pools which was very pretty with the water flowing down on the rocks below.
Next we hiked along the river and to the Grotto trail head to hike to
Angels Landing; it was a real pretty contrast between the river below
and the red rock and trail above.
This trail was beautiful and wide but extremely steep and exposed in many area’s. The weather fluctuated from hot to cold as the sun peeked through the clouds and the wind picked up. We hiked up and then into a canyon called the “refrigerator” where we saw this balanced rock.
Next we climbed up some switchbacks moving up to a clearing before the steep ascent to the top of Angels landing. The ascent to Angels landing from the clearing is flowing rock formations along a chain to guide yourself.
From the top of Angels Landing the view was awesome in all directions, this is a picture of Sara and I to show how exposed and high Angels landing is from the top. We were very close to the edge in this picture and wow was it a long way down; you can see the road below us winding on the valley floor.
