We are sick and tired of David Letterman having all the fun so this year for our Christmas letter we are doing the Kari & Sara top 9 in 09, which is way more fun!
Here we go with Number…
9. Stand-Up Paddle Boarding: Our friend Jr. was kind enough to teach us how to do, and not do, stand-up paddle in the Back Bay in Newport Beach. Let’s just say we did well paddle boarding on our own and got very wet tandem paddle boarding together – Ha.
8. MC 200 Run : 12 women runners, 2 minivans, light rain, and tons of food and Gatorade makes priceless memories on this relay run from Madison to Chicago with Sarah E and other friends old and new.
7. Indoor Skydiving: Only in Hollywood can you skydive indoors. This was a blast as our instructor taught us how to fly and fall to earth in a giant vertical wind tunnel. What made it fun were all the people who came along to watch drool flow up our faces.
6. Gilles vs. Gilles: Sara’s brother Steve challenged her to a 5K Tosa fest run just blocks from sister Anne’s house. Sara took advantage of this one moment in time when her brother had too much to eat and drink before this evening race, and made her move to edge Steve out at the line; man this family is competitive!
5. PMP: Yea I know what it sounds like, but there is no “i” in PMP, and no women involved. Kari became a certified Project Manager Professional this year, after class and many hours of studying. He again found that side of himself that knows how to study and answer a ton of multiple choice questions – and forget them quickly again.
4. Leah’s Wedding: The first wedding of our nieces and nephews was Leah’s in October. It was a great time seeing the Kraus family again and joining the celebration for Leah and Tom starting their lives together.
3. Roland’s 80th Birthday, Water skiing and Kayaking in Wisconsin: Roland, a brand-new octogenarian, completely enjoyed his family 80th birthday party, but wasn’t sure of his new role. Lucky for all of us, he will be around a while to figure it out. While in Wisconsin we also enjoyed kayaking in Lake Michigan at Sara’s cousin’s place, and waterskiing with Marnie, Clay and Maria. Awesome!
2. Summiting Mt. Whitney: We climbed to the highest point in the continental U.S. with our friend Marnie and came down in the middle of a snow storm. It was way fun and quicker, to slide down the snow field on our butts steering with our ice axes.
1. Sailing in Tahiti: A forever dream of ours was to go to Tahiti and we did it up big on a sailboat with the world’s best water crew on board. We went water skiing, snorkeling, swimming, running, eating, and lots of other “ings”. What a blast and a happy 10th wedding anniversary!
Love,
Kari and Sara
