To start out our first day we went up Lighthouse Hill as a run to the top. This is a gradual paved run at first to the top of a hill where an awesome overlook to the ocean is available and where the lighthouse is available. Its a 2 mile run round trip and boy is the view worth it.
We went to Calvary by the Sea Lutheran Church which we found about 15 minutes drive from Karl and Colleen’s house. The church was right on the ocean where we sat in a circle around the pastor and the choir for the day was an Hawaiian group dressed in traditional clothing; we even sung the doxology in Hawaiian – fun!
The Koko Head Climb is legendary in this area and we just had to give it a try since we are just 15 minutes away.
I call this a climb instead of a trail run because A there was no “running” involved and B because the whole darn thing was up. If you squint and look into the distance you can see an electrical pole on the left at the top that is where we are going.
This is an old railroad track used by the military to pull ammunition to the hill top concrete bunkers, so these railroad ties are our steps.
The climb up was really steep and challenging and fun, it was amazing how much time it took for just a mile you can see below on the video how it was 1000 feet of climbing.
Here is us at the top enjoying view, it was really a sight to see.
