With one of the biggest bike races in North America – The Amgen Tour of California Stage race in our backyard Sara and I could not miss the chance to see the cycling greats, so we drove to LA to watch the Stage 7 time trial.
I have never seen LA downtown so shut down and how amazing it was for a bike time trial. The start is at the center of the map by the Staples Center and and 20 mile course (in blue below) went North and Aouth from that location with turns on each end, so we got to see the riders go by at least 4 times.
Time Trial Course Map (in blue)
We parked at the top of the map and then ran down to the center by the start and finish where the party was going on. We met some buddies down there Jason and James who had taken a bus to the race with their team. On the run down we stopped to watch the riders that came really close to us – like this guy from united heath care – check this out…
Team Radioshack was there minus Lance Armstrong who crashed on Thursday and dropped out. Levi was in the top five going into the TT and has won the last couple so we were cheering and looking for him. Here are some video clips I put together of Levi’s run.
