Camp Pendleton Sprint Triathlon – What a Blast!

Sara and I got out to do a triathlon today at Camp Pendleton do do a Sprint Triathlon(500meter swim, 18 mile bike and 3.1 mile run). It was a blast being out there again competing it has been about a year since we have done one. The race was held on the Pendleton Marine Base in the Navy section for (LCAC) Landing Craft, Air Cushion vehicles. The LCAC is a high-speed, over-the-beach fully amphibious landing craft capable of carrying a 60-75 ton payload, and this training repair facility is where it was held. The finish line even took us through one of these huge vehicles.

Sara and I had a really fun time. The ocean surf was challenging when I went out toward the first bouy but the swim was great after that. The bike was on the base roads and had rolling hills and the run was on the Navy base flat and fast paved. The sun came out early so it was hot and humid but being on the coast helped a ton. Sara racked her bike right by Michele Jones (Silver Medalist in Triathlon in the Sidney Olympics and Winner of Kona Ironman) so she had to go over and get a picture. She is an awesome lady and so laid back (she ended up winning the race for the women.
