The 12 days of Christmas Kari & Sara style…You know how the tune goes..

On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me…

1 Ironman Triathlon
In September Kari completed the Wisconsin Ironman (2.4 miles swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run) on the beautiful UW Madison campus in 11 hrs and 48 minutes. This the picture of Kari on the back of the Christmas card.

…and a trip to In and Out Burger

2 Half Marathons
In May we finished the southern California triple crown of coastal half marathons for an awesome surfboard medal and our recent PR times of 1:28 for Kari and 1:34 for Sara.

3 Grand Canyon Rims
In October, we took on the adventure to trail run the Grand Canyon in one day. We started on the South rim in the dark, crossed the Colorado river, and climbed the north rim. We backtracked and up the south rim to the finish. You can see us on our way down the North rim on the front of our Christmas card.

4 Pre-Marital Couples
Saddleback church offers us the opportunity to counsel couples about to start off their lives together with a Christ centered marriage.

5 Whale sightings
In July Sara and I went on our first whale watching tour together in Dana Point and saw at least 5 grey whales, even a mother and her cub. Bonus was hundreds of dolphins playing along the bow of the boat.

6 Crops of Leaf Lettuce
Our porch garden has been producing abundant crops of leaf lettuce this year. It is a crop that we can grow year round and is super easy to cut and eat.

7 Sisters climbing

Bet you thought this was about our Sisters, Nope! Seven sisters is a series of 7 very challenging bicycle climbs in the Laguna area where we live.

8 Caribbean Islands
In January we took a sailboat cruise through the southern islands of the Caribbean. Each island has its own character and fun.

9 Sailing Mornings
We love the ocean, and are blessed the last couple of years to be able to go out and sail small and big sailboats out along the beautiful coast.

10 Funny Comments
Really? Do you even have to ask what this one is about?

11 Body Aches
With Ironman and Spartan race training this year we have had at least 11 body aches. Sometimes before bed we even kid each other about what doesn’t hurt 🙂

12 Christmas Runs

We have a tradition of running with a group of friends at Christmas around Balboa Island for the annual boat parade. We started this holiday tradition many years ago and love to check out the decorations on the boats and on the houses every year.
