We spent the night at the Arenal Backpackers Resort which was simple, inexpensive and clean. Here is a view of the place from the second floor balcony… not bad for a hostel huh?
One of the highlights of this area is seeing the Arenal Volcano because most of the time it is covered by clouds. We we lucked out today because we had great views of the volcano today from the hostel and also on our adventures of the day.
Here is one of our favorites – Arenal Volcano
Up until a year ago it was very active so it has a textbook look for what you would expect a volcano to look like; and you can see it from the entire area.
We were picked up in early morning to go for two more adventures before we leave Costa Rica: Canyoneering and Zip-lining.
For the Canoneering we were shuttled about 20 minutes away to a gravel road where we switched to four wheel drive vehicles to be taken up the rough roads to our hike in point to start our Canyoneering. Canyoneering is a combination of hiking, stream crossing and rappelling.
While driving in on the four-wheel vehicles they abruptly stopped and we all got out to see what was going on…there was a three toed sloth right on the side of the road..check it out
We were dropped off on the trail – had some instructions on our gear and safety and then started our hike in to the forest.
Some of the water was deeper than others….
Our final rappel of the day was about 150 feet which was really fast and fun…
It was a great morning in a beautiful forest with some fun adventure…so what to do in the afternoon….huh…..
We were picked up from Canyoneering to next go on our last zip-lining of the trip. When we arrived there was only two other people going with us besides the guides so we knew this was going to be fun…
The zipling was amazing in this area with some of the fastest and longest we had done on our trip.
The highlights had to be….
and Zip-lining Upside down
We had an awesome time but really were tired when we boarded our plane for home thinking we used up that week…time to sleep for the next adventure.
