Costa Rica – Monteverde Cloud Forest

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

Today we decided to get an early start (you will find this is a theme) to drive to Monteverde and the cloud forest.

We had heard that the drive to Monteverde was rocky with switchbacks and we were not disappointed. After 2.5 hours of rocky driving and about 3 extra hours we were dusty and ready to get out into the cloud forest.

We arrived at Selvatura Adventures were we were ready to do Ziplining and exporting the cloud forest.

Charlene had a connection to someone that works here who is the relative of a friend so we were anxious to see if here was here.

It turns out the Ronald was working here and grew up in the states but was a resident of Costa Rica now and his family owns this business and set us up for a great day…. notice the awesome Packer hat!

We walked in and got awesome treatment. The first order of business was to go zip-lining. We all geared up in our harnesses and they lead us to a small van to take us to the forest to start…

After a short drive and a short hike we we got together to start our first zips… here is the crew ready to go…I don’t think that the couple that joined us all was ready for us 🙂

There was a mist in the air that was thick and every zip that we went on it seemed as if we were zipping into the distance that we could not see.

After we had done all but one of our zips for the day we had the option to do a Tarzan Swing.  They take you up to a tower and rope you in to a pendulum rope and then you have to step off of the tower and swing.

The hard part is stepping off and falling for a few feet before you start swinging, check it out…

The zip-ling was fast and fun – except this guy who really got freaked out when he got moving on the cable…whats his name Bob…

It was a ton of fun and this was just the first event of the day…

So whats up next… time to explore the canopy of this cloud forest thing.. You start by going on a short hike and then you enter the first suspension bridge…

The bridges suspend you over the canopy of the forest of lush jungle below. While in the air is the feeling of mist like you are literally in the clouds.

The jungle is so green and lush there are literally plants and tree’s growing out of other trees and plant. All the while you can always hear water flowing below, although most of the time the jungle is hiding it from you.

It was great seeing the forest from this vantage point…

However we did not see many animals..in fact this Rainforest Owl (wink wink 🙂  we saw on the way out and we were very surprised …they must have been sleeping when we were there… more on this later

The flowers and the butterflies in this area were really beautiful. We were able to walk around the ground and really take in the cloud forest…

The hummingbirds were so remarkable and colorful. Just look at the ones we were able to see…

The colors were so rich against the green forest they just jumped out at you…

We had a great time thanks to the Lyon family and our good buddy Ronald for showing us the forest…now it is on to the coast for some more adventures…
