Dana Point – Beginner Sailing Rocks

posted in: Uncategorized | 1

Sara and I are tired of being beaten by the Wind..

Let me explain….

Have you ever been in this situation?

  • At a resort or beach that provides sail boats or wind surfing?
  • Taken out said boat or wind surfer
  • Found yourself stranded in some crazy position, way off, cursing the boat or wind surfboard

All because you didn’t know how to do IT! right!

Well Sara and I had had enough, so today we took our first sailing lesson in Dana Point Harbor.

Neither of us were expecting much.. I mean it was our first (beginner) lesson and we had all of this “baggage” from being stranded in several exotic locals.. but boy were we pleasantly surprised

We started on the dock after donning our PFDs and our instructor took us through boating terms and parts as well as safety.

But what came next was the light bulb Sara and I had been waiting for – understanding the wind – the life blood of sailing, and he laid it out for us in simple terms…

Next we set out to practice our Tack and Jibe going only a short distance and in very calm wind – a great way to learn and keep dry 🙂 . It is truly amazing how little wind these little boats need to keep moving.

It was a really fun lesson, and we were both able to sail back and fourth in a straight line without getting stranded! We are definitely going back for more as soon as we have 4 Saturdays for sailing.
