Finding Peace

Philippians 4:6-7 ESV / 5

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Some very good things  happened this week.  I was able to get my breast MRI completed and in network. The tech, Shelly, set me up with an IV and positioned me on my stomach.  I had a small mirror so I could see a little of what was going on. It was very loud but she played 80’s music for me so I tried to focus on that. Half way through she released dye via the IV so they can compare pictures with and without contrast.  I had to lie very still so they can compare the two pictures to each other.

The other good thing was able to see my breast surgeon 9 days early due to a cancellation.  I am planning on choosing a lumpectomy because my tumor is small and it is a quicker recovery than mastectomy. My markers for my cancer all came back that it is very slow growing and Stage 1.  It feeds on estrogen and progesterone so it is easier to treat. Great news.  My doctor said that I will definitely need radiation because I am so young. (Maybe she wanted to make me feel good?) My friend had radiation during her surgery and I wanted to do the same to avoid weeks of radiation later. They don’t offer this yet at my hospital.  Not great. They offer brachy therapy which requires surgeries to place and remove the device and then 5 days of radiation 2 times per day for a week. May have to check into other options.

My MRI showed no other suspicious tumors in my breasts which is awesome, but it did show something suspicious on my liver!  What?? What does this mean?  More phone calls. More referrals. More appointments. More navigating though insurance. More questions. More decisions. More time devoted to this process. Do I need to see an oncologist before my surgery? (normally you meet with an oncologist 6 weeks after surgery) It is likely that it is not cancer but if it is, it would change everything about my treatment and prognosis.  Now need to check into this before we can more forward.

I have so many people praying for me and encouraging me with cards and texts.  I am doing my best to find peace that God promises during this situation.
