Hiking in Aliso Woods

Sara and I got out for some hiking on Saturday in Aliso Woods near our home. It is amazing that such an awesome park is only about 8 miles from our front door. We go there often to do trail running on a relatively flat part of the trail but since we are going to Zion to hike in less than a month we decided to put on our trail shoes and packs and go out on the upper trails.

The air was extremely dry so we brought along enough water for a 2 hour hike, luckily there was a nice breeze on the way out from the ocean. On this trail you can see clear to the saddleback mountains over the valley filled with homes and on the other side is laguna canyon leading down to laguna beach.

Many of the cactus were blooming along the trail on the way up so I took note and caught a couple on film on the way down – here is one that caught my eye because of its orange color. I have to say I am quite impressed with the beauty this spring after all the rain – awesome!
