Kari Cruze – 40th birthday ride

Sara gave me an awesome birthday present this year by organizing a ride for me and our friends to from San Clemente to San Diego. We rode from the train station in San Clemente to the Train Station in San Diego and there was a group of riders from my work Jason, James and their friends Mike “the bike” and John. Also some the tri crew with LarDog, Ron, Camille, Kara and Brian.

Camille and I share the same birthday (Bastille Day) so it was great to get to do the ride with her, since she is training so hard for Aquabike coming up soon.

The ride went quick because with the group helped the pace move along with quick jumps on the hills and the flats. About 75 miles later we arrived at Sea Port Village and it was time for some fueling up that we all needed and John graciously bought a pitcher of beer for the table.

Sara whom never ceases to amaze me brought with her a candle and matches so I could have the group sing happy birthday to me and I could blow out my meat candle (yum).

All was going well until we hit the train station which was challenging. We never had a problem before getting a big group on the train because the conductors would just open a baggage car and let us lay down our bikes. This year it seems like they have instituted only 6 bikes per train and there were already 2 people who got bumped from the last train who were ahead of us. Long story short Jason, James and John graciously gave us their spots on the train. Here they are drinking up the Monsters when we left – Thanks guys we appreciate it.
