friend, Sarah, invited me to join her on the annual MC200 event where 12 people pile into 2 vans to run relay-style from Madison to Chicago. We started at 10 AM on Friday morning and finished 1st out of 5 All-Women’s teams just before 4 PM on Saturday in the cold gusts off of Lake Michigan.
My part of it was to run 6 miles on trail at 2 PM, 6.5 miles at midnight in light rain on Hwy 100 and Layton in Milwaukee with the muscle cars and a rainy 7.75 miles at 9:30 on Saturday in Racine. It was a fun, well organized event and Sarah and our team “Women In Motion” were there to offer support all along the way.
The event was not with out mishaps though as our runner Kathy was pelted at 30 miles per hour with a giant slurpy to the gut from some renegade kids by the Milwaukee Mile and Amy was attacked by birds dive-bomb style repeatedly attacking her head. We ran though heat and rain, day and night, hunger and GI distress with equal helpings of fatigue and laughter. What a great time.
Kathy is a champion for taking a surpy to the rib without letting it slow her down.
Here is us all running to the finish line
