This morning at 0 dark thirty we got up to meet our friends at the San Clemente Train station to do our annual ride to San Diego and take the train back. It promised to be a hot day so we planned to meet at 7AM to beat the heat. The fearless team ended up being Lardog, Camille, Kara, Jose, Franco, Sara and I and we picked up Daniel along the way.
Here is us at the train station:
The ride was a beautiful jog along the southern California coast taking us through San Clemente, Camp Pendelton Marine Base, Oceanside, Carlsbad, Solana Beach, Torrey Pines (great hill climb), La Jolla, Mission Bay and Downtown San Diego. We finished our ride at Sea Port Village were we “ate big”, Sara and I opted for Greek food which really hit the spot.
Last we got back on our bikes and rode over to the train station to catch the 12:55 Amtrak back to San Clemente. Amtrak has a luggage car that they allow cyclists to load their bikes into for the ride home. Lardog got the sweet ride from Kim to SeaWorld to have some warm afternoon fun in the sun.
On the train ride back we learned one important new fun fact..that Jose was a train “virgin”. How he made to his middle 30’s without riding a train is true testament that Southern California is a car culture. He was real funny about it when we caught him on film
Thank to all you guys for a really fun and tiring day (the good tired 🙂 ) and to those
that didn’t make it you missed out!
