We got up early and went to the Tropical Bar to get fruit and some juice to drink. On deck, we meet fellow independent travelers, Nancy and David, who sailed in their own boat in these beautiful waters 8 years ago. They had great insight for us on to make sense of what the crew was doing as they hosted the huge sails. We could also see the two islands – Huahine and Raiatea. Take a look:
After checking out the deck, we went down for breakfast. Here is a view of our walk from our cabin to the dining room below deck. The rule from the crew was to always have one hand for you and one hand for the boat because sometimes the ship rocks you from one side of the corridor to the other in rough seas.
We got off the boat shortly after we came alongside (Docked) with out running clothes on and started running to find the path up to the radio tower that the guide book talked about. It turns we couldn’t find any path going up to the tower and everyone we asked only spoke French and looked at us like we were crazy to be running. Seams we were out of luck. The only thing we found was a rustic hospital which a member of our tour would end up visiting later in the trip. We did find two things out though; one that it that really really hot and humid weather makes us quickly sweat very profusely, and second the flowers growing just along the road were amazing! Did you every see how bananas grow in the wild?
We went back to the boat and took advantage of the on board water sports while we were in the calm waters of this islands atoll. The water was like glass and we went water skiing . Carl one of the water sports guys was great and once he knew we could get up and ski out of the wake he worked hard to knock us down.
When we got back we tooki in a relaxing“swim” in the pool on the deck to cool off. We decided it would be fun to swim down to the bottom of the pool and look out through the portals into the ship.
Our dinner this first night and every night was amazing with fresh fish, beef, chicken and many ohter choices of unique French cooking. The chef surprised us each night and we were delighted to look at his presentation and eat his creations. Check out this fish below – delicious!
