UnBelizeable – Day 4 – Caye Cauker

Our time in the Jungle was done and now it was time to get on the ocean. We got up early to catch the local bus which picked up at 6:45AM on the road for our 1.5 hour ride to Belize city. There were Amish, Guatemalans, and many others carrying lots of supplies on the bus – a young boy got on the bus to sell chips in a basket and then got off the bus to get on another one going back where he came from.

Our first major stop was in the capital city of Belmopan at the bus station and then onto Belize City. You can see below that one of the Amish passengers below had a two man wood saw on the bus…try that in the states…

We got a taxi outside the bus station with the help of a local cop to water taxi station. Normally we would have walked the couple of blocks, but this are of  Belize city is not very safe with all of our stuff, and besides our cab driver was from NY

The water taxi is a long boat with a closed in area to sit and lots of people..

Packed in we started our trip from land to island and water, man this was different…

About 45 minutes later we were docking on the island of Caye Caulker where we would spend the rest of our trip with the sun and beautiful blue water. Our first mission was to find something to eat so we walked down “main street” Caye Caulker…

and we found a place for breakfast and thought that huevos rancheros sounded great well this is huevos rancheros island style man did we eat them up fast after traveling all morning…

after some food it was time to get to our place for next couple of days which was about a mile and half walk up “main street” through a local cemetery which seemed weird the first time but after walking through it time after time seemed somewhat normal

and the path continued along the ocean to our destination at the Barefoot Beach Belize

the colors and island style of this place epitomizes what we saw on the island…bright colors and super relaxed style is how it goes on the island

and who can beat this view from outside our room…

after dumping our stuff in the room we saw that hammock beaconing on the end of the pier so we walked out to give it a shot. I don’t know how often you have tried them but they take some skill to get comfortable in… but I think I am getting the hang of it…what do you think?

After a short rest it was time to check out the water. We checked in at the local diving shop – Frenchies Diving which we had talked to on the phone -easy to find it looks like a diving flag…however all the diving boats had already left for the day…

so we immediately signed up to go snorkeling in the local reef. Our guide came by and picked us up on the next pier and we went out to check out the area. The water was amazing check it out…

We had a blast and were set for more adventures in the water

Next up on day 5 diving in the local reef…..check it out
