UnBelizeable – Day 6 – Ho Chan Marine Reserve Snorkel

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

Well we got up at o dark 30 to go and meet the Frenchies Dive boat because the boat ride out to these reefs was a couple of hours on a good ocean day…

We kind of knew walking down there that it was too windy to dive outside the reef today but we went anyway because we really wanted to see the Blue Hole..but it wasn’t in the plan today so we went to plan B…go for a run and then come back to sign up for a snorkel boat in the Ho Chan Marine Reserve

It was a wait because we had gotten up so early, but we got to see the sunrise..

and while waiting near the dock…

We saw a local cleaning some fish and it turned out to be a Barracuda..

He cleaned it right on the pier and cut it up into Barracuda steaks on the spot and we could see locals coming to pick them up in plastic bags as he finished cutting…talk about fresh fish….we will come back to this later..

Now it was time to get out on the water again…and man was it choppy going out.. I am really glad we didn’t go on the long boat trip today because this we got to see Green Turtles (very rare)…

and nurse sharks (below) in the water with us…. we also saw rays and a couple of spotted eagle rays at least 6 feet across what an amazing creature to swim along with in the water

It was another amazing day out on the water and we were ready to get back and eat some great local food

We had passed this TomBoy restaurant so many times on our walk into town and it was time to try it…TomBoy was always out in the street coaxing people to eat at his place. The fresh fish was all laid out and ready

So here is how it worked…you pick your fish.. we went with the barracuda…we knew it was fresh we had seen it out on the dock in the morning right and the Grouper Kabobs which we had seen under the water as well some huge fish..

Then you sit down and get your drinks and they start cooking your food on the outdoor grill…doesn’t it look yummy!!

Then they serve it to you with beans and rice or in our case rice and salad…

Here is the Barracuda steaks..

and here is the Grouper Kabobs..

I tell you it was the perfect end to an awesome trip and since we didn’t get to the Blue Hole we have a reason to come back and explore again.

Stay tuned for our next adventure……
