We are so thankful to get the chance to travel to Wisconsin this year after not being able to go in 2020 because of Covid19.
We flew out of OC and flew to Dallas to connect to Milwaukee. Good flight uneventful except for the wearing of masks the whole way.
The next day we got out to hike with our friend Marni on the Ice Age Trail in Delafield WI. It was already starting to get warm so we got out early and there was some nice canopy cover.
We were looking for a peak with a lookout tower and we came upon this one overlooking the marsh and Marni and Sara starting looking out for things :).
The prairie grass and flowers were in full bloom and beautiful and we were on the dirt path and you can see the bike trail there in the distance.
Took a couple of close up shots of the wildflowers that were very colorful.
We came to a clearing where the lookout tower. It was about five flights of wooden stairs to the top and the 360 degree view was the reward.
In this view you can see Nagawicka Lake off to the right and the Delafield area below. You could also see Pewaukee Lake and the Milwaukee downtown from this view – pretty awesome.
The hike featured lots of these raised wooden walkways allowing us to walk above the marshland. Here Sara and Marni are posing for me among the tall marsh grass.
At the end Marni rewarded us with some cold watermelon which tasted sweet and refreshing
After the hike we drove to the cottage and we got introduced to the pontoon boat that Karl had rented for the week. The water looked awesome and the sky was beautiful.
On Independence Day we had lots of the family hanging out at the lake. We were supervising some early fireworks being lit by the nieces and nephews.
There was a boat parade on the lake before the fireworks. This boat/float we thought was the best with the Mario theme, characters in costume etc.
This yellow submarine was second for us.
This boat was really patriotic and had a huge motor and mufflers that we were hearing race by for most of the afternoon.
The fireworks started about 9:30 and were shot off from a barge in the middle of the lake. In this pic you can see the glow on the barge as the fireworks are ignited.
The fireworks were amazing as always and we had the best seats in the house just sitting on the hill looking out at the lake.
Before leaving the area we stopped by Leah and Toms new farmhouse. It sits on 5 acres and they are doing an amazing job fixing it up. This is the front yard and you can see the large workshop on the left.
Leah took us for a walk in the woods behind their house where they have cleared out a great path for summer or winter fun.
We had such a great time visiting with everyone.
