Yosemite is one of our favorite places to camp and hike. Our journey started just past the tunnel at the first lookout into the valley. You can see half dome in the distance and our plan is to go there tomorrow.
We setup camp with our friend John and his friends and with a short walk around we could see half dome looming up in the distance – so awesome in the evening light.
On our drive in we stopped to take a look at the falls. The water was really rushing and the mist was so thick near the falls that we had to put our rain jackets on. It is really amazing when water is flowing in the valley.
We had never hiked the panorama trail to the valley it has such great views of half dome and the entire trail. Here is us at the trailhead after being dropped off a glacier point.
Great view of Sara and Marni with the side of half dome in the distance and the Nevada falls in the valley.
Here you can see half dome, Vernal and Navada falls in the valley. Such a beautiful sunny clear day to be hiking.
This is the start of our hike to half dome early in the morning on the mist trail. You can see Sara in the front and Marni coming up on the wet rocky steps.
Sara and Marni just below Vernal falls in the early morning at the beginning of our hike. It was cold and misty but we were working hard so all good.
Nevada falls gushing in the early morning light. Was awesome to see and hear the power of this water.
Here we are on the trail with Half Dome just in sight. The trail was really in great shape and as you can see the sun came out making it a great morning.
Here is the side of Half Dome with the people on the cables. Since we are hiking prior to Memorial Day weekend the cables were on the ground with out the standups or the boards to walk on.
When you stand at the base of the cables it looks pretty steep. So we put on our harnesses, clipped in and started our batman ascent of the cables on the rock.
Here is a great pic of Marni holding on to the cable and following it up near the top.
Here is the look at the top. The wind wasn’t blowing too hard so it was a good temp. The backside had a snow drift on it which was a “cool” sight.
It was great to make it to the top and get to experience this great view. Luckily another group of guys met us as we were going out to the point so they could take our picture.
The view down the cables is pretty awesome. Here you can see the approach to the base of the cables.
Sara and I took a short rest together on this bomber ledge. Those are my legs and her orange shoes right next to me.
Here is Sara rappelling down the cable like a pro. She was easy to sight with her bright jacket on.
Such a great weekend to connect with friends, get in some great hiking/climbing and enjoying this awesome park.
