Zion Day 3 – Steep and Beautiful

We started off this morning slightly later to wait for the sun to get higher in the sky because there was a chill in the air with a temp about 35 degree’s. We drove up into the park and took the Zion Mt. Carmel Highway to the Canyon Overlook Trail. This trail is amazing how it follows and goes under the rock and then opens up into a clearing on the top of a huge rock shelf with a railing called Canyon Overlook.

Below is an image looking into the Zion Canyon off to the left and Pine Creek Canyon on the right wall with the Mt Carmel highway winding up

Here is a view of the whole valley. As the movie pans to the right you can see a steep face where we climbed to the top, big fun just took some time because of the exposure.

After hiking out we drove into the park and stopped at the Weeping rock Trail. This trail heads toward Observation point so we walked up part of the way so Sara and I could get our first look at a slot canyon going into Middle Echo Canyon. A slot canyon is an area between the canyon walls where the rock is narrowed out by water and there is trail to walk in.

After this last hike Sara and my legs were worked and it was time to climb into the car and start the 7 hour journey back to OC. Jim and Kara were awesome dragging our buts around the mountains this weekend what a rush.
