Relieved!

I received a call that my onca test was delayed so instead of hearing the results and if I needed chemo today, my appointment is next Thursday. Chemo needs to be completed before radiation can start. On Monday I went in for what I thought would be a dry run for radiaion, but it was a CT so they could plan my radiation. The plan takes 5 days to complete. I went in today to do the dry run. While I was there, I mentioned to the doctor that I was surprised and relieved that they didn’t have to wait on the onca test to start radiaion. He didn’t know that the results were delayed. (Different doctors with very similar names.) They stopped everything and said that we would need to wait on the radiation treatments. I have 21 treatments which I could finish before thanksgiving and before our trip to Wisconsin. Any delay becomes tricky and clouds the trip. Plus the thought of chemo and more delays is not at all appealing.

While I was processing this and before I even left the office, I got a call from my oncologist that I don’t need chemo! We can proceed with the radiation plan and I wont loose my hair or my appetite! I can finish by Thanksgiving and have even more to be thankful for. There will be other treatments like hormone blockers, but chemo was the biggest threat looming and with that off the table I will sleep much better.

I was able to get my covid 19 booster on Wednesday and just scheduled my flu shot for later today. I want everything out of the way so my body can prepare for radiation and still stay safe for my trip.

I have been doing a lot of hiking and even joined a meet up group for some local hikes on the beach or on the trails. I am really enjoying meeting friends for a walk. So simple. No real prep needed and great conversation. I have started lifting some very light weights to prepare for return to work. I have met more people in my neighborhood and am connecting with old friends. I have completed my continuing ed for Physical therapy online and tried red light therapy at the place where I had hyperbaric treatments. I have been joining Kari for his work Bible studies. I even made pumpkin bowtie pasta for dinner. Kari has been great and like always I have so much to be grateful for.
