Surgery day was yesterday. I thought I would be emotional and scared but I was really so happy and excited! So many people were praying for me that I felt totally covered in prayer and I was at peace with God’s plan. So many wonderful medical staff were on board to take care of be and bring me to a Cancer-free disposition. Yay! The time flew by.
I took the anti-nausea pill at 6:30 per MD recommendation and was able to do my last upper body workout for a long time including 5 pull-ups. We had to be at the hospital at 10:30 for a 12:30 surgery. I was visited by my 3 doctors and a OR nurse. It felt a bit like being visited by the 3 Christmas ghosts. Everyone was super nice. A nurse came injected blue dye into my nipple so they could see which lymph nodes should be removed and tested for cancer then off to surgery. There were about 8-10 people in the OR even before the other doctors came in. I was zonked-out before I even remember counting down from “10′.
When I woke up I was very disoriented but felt so relived and physically pretty good. I was done and I didn’t die! My torso was wrapped from my arm pits to by belly button tight almost like a body cast.
Kari was with me the whole time and was the keeper of all things valuable. I didn’t need anything where I was going. They have a system where he can get updates on his phone to tell him were I am in the process; Surgery Vs recovery. He had the fun task of telling everyone how I was doing. A friend came to visit him too! He took a few calls from the doctors who said that everything went really well. Preliminary tests on the lymph node shows no cancer. There will be a more extensive test with complete results coming on Friday.
My follow up visit with my plastics doctor was today and my good friend gave me a ride as I cant drive until I’m off pain medication. The doctor took off the wraps and everything looked great! I can shower tomorrow and take the last of the gauze off in the water. Meanwhile, they wrapped my up again and I need to wear a tight jog bar for 6 weeks.
I applied for state disability so will see how that goes. Lots of follow up appointments and radiation to come. I am on my way to my 3rd hyperbaric chamber visit at 5:30. I have taken a few pain pills which control my pain very well. Where they took out the lymph nodes is still very sore but the doctor wants me to stretch into full ROM right away.
